Materials Needed

Wool: 400 Grams Medium Weight #4 (worsted Weight) (16 stitches = 1” inch)

Crochet Hook: 4.0 mm/G-6 OR 5.0 mm) H-8

Finished Size

The finished puff flower granny square is about 4" inches each side of square.

6 Squares each Row x 7 Rows- 42 Squares 

Baby Blanket (30” x 36”) – 30 to 42 Squares

Gauge

  • A 4 round granny square measures approximately:
  • 4 inches x 4 inches (10 cm x 10 cm)
  • Gauge may vary depending on yarn brand, hook size, and individual crochet tension.

Pattern Notes:

  • US crochet terminology in used.
  • Ch-2 at the beginning of a round does not count as a stitch unless stated otherwise
  • Ch 3 counts as first double crochet in the corner.
  • Join rounds with a slip stitch to beginning ch3.

Crochet Abbreviation

Cluster Double Crochet Stitch (Cl):

Ch2, *Yarn over, insert hook into the indicated stitch and pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull through 2 loops. Repeat from * 3 times in same stitch and 3 times in next stitch, leaving the last loop of each partial double crochet on the hook. Yarn over and pull through all loops on the hook to complete the cluster. Chain 1 if specified in the pattern.


Make Small Puff Flower:

Color A:

Start work: make a magic ring or make chains 4, slip st into 1st ch to make small ring.

Row1- ch1 does not count, make 12 sc into ring, slip st into sc. (sc 12)

Row2- ch2, into same st *make 3dc cluster (see crochet Abbreviation), make 3dc cluster

in next st, now we have 7 loops On hook, pull all loops with a ch1 to close a cluster, ch1,

slip st into same st , Now I have complete one puff petal in the flower.

Repeat from * 5 more times same work around in the sc stitches,

slip st, Fasten off

Making flower middle puff:

color B:

work: ch4, into 2nd ch from the hook make 3dc cluster, make 3dc cluster in next st, 

now we have 7 loops On hook, pull all loops with a ch1 to close a cluster, ch2, 

slip st into same st,

Finishing: sew and attach this little one puff in the middle of flower, stop and make

Granny square around the puff flower:

Solid Granny Square pattern:

Row1- attach color A into middle st between 2 puff petals, ch3 count, 2dc, ch2, 3dc,

* Make 3 hdc into next puff st, make corner in next middle st between 2 puff petals

(3dc, ch2, 3dc)*, repeat from * around. Slip st join into top of ch3, slip st in next 2 dc,

Slip st into next middle corner,

now we have 4 corners.

INC Repeating Row:  ch3 count, 2dc, ch2, 3dc, *Make 1 dc in each st across to next corner,

Make corner into middle space of corner (3dc, ch2, 3dc)*, repeat from * to* around,

Slip st join into top of ch3, slip st in next 2 dc, Slip st into next middle corner space.

 Fasten off or repeat the “INC Repeating Row” for larger sizes of squares.

Make Large Puff Flower:

Color A:

Start work: make a magic ring or make chains 4, slip st into 1st ch to make small ring.

Row1- into circle make ch1 does not count, make 16 hdc into ring, slip st into hdc. (hdc 12)

Color B:

Row2- ch2, into same st *make 3dc cluster (see crochet Abbreviation), make 3dc cluster

in next st, now we have 7 loops On hook, pull all loops with a ch1 to close a cluster, ch1,

slip st into same st , Now I have complete one puff petal in the flower.

Repeat from * 7 more times same work around in the hdc stitches, slip st, now 

(we have 8 puffs) Stop and change color A, then make granny square around the flower.


Solid Granny Square Pattern:

Color A:

Row1- attach color A into middle slip st between 2 puff petals, ch3 count, 2dc,

*skip a puff, Make 3 dc into next middle st between 2 puff petals, skip next puff, make corner

in next middle st  between 2 puff petals (3dc, ch2, 3dc)*, repeat from * around, in the last

st, complete the 4th corner, make 3 dc, ch2, Slip st join into top of ch3,

now we have 4 corners.

INC Repeating Row:  ch3 count, 2dc into same space, *Make 1 dc in each st across to

next corner, Make corner into middle space of corner (3dc, ch2, 3dc)*, repeat 

from * to* around, at the last corner space make 3dc, ch2, Slip st join into top of ch3,

Fasten off or repeat the “INC Repeating Row” for larger sizes of squares. Follow

Size chart above.

Finishing: now solid granny square is ready for joining. Weave all ends

 

How to join crochet puff flower squares for a blanket

Once all your puff flower granny squares are complete, I have 42 squares, I have

6 squares each Row. repeat 7 rows total for a baby blanket.

Now! it’s time to join Them together to create a beautiful blanket like the one shown

above picture.  

Step 1: Arrange the squares

Lay all the squares on a flat surface and arrange them in your desired pattern. Alternate colors

Evenly to create a balanced and eyd-catching design.

Step 2: Place Squares Right Side Up

Keep all squares facing the same direction with right side facing up. Make sure the 

corners and edges are aligned neatly.

Step 3: Join the Fist Two Squares

Place two squares side by side.

Insert your hood through the corresponding corner middle stitches to both squares.

Join yarn with a slip stitch or use any of way to joining the squares together.

Work slip stitches or single crochet stitches through both loops of each square across

The edge.

Continue until you reach the next corner.

Step 4: Join Remaining Square into Rows

Repeat the process to attach all the square in the first row, now I have 6 squares each

Row. Then join the remaining rows in the same way, repeat 7 rows total.

Step 5: Place two completed rows together and join them stitch by stitch across the

Entire length. Continue until all rows are connected.

Step 6: Add a Border

Once the blanket is fully assembled, work 2-4 rounds of single crochet, half double crochet,

Or your favorite decorative edging around the entire blanket for a polished finish.

Border Ribbing: 

Row1- join same color A into corner, *make corner into middle of corner(3 sc, ch2, 3sc), make

1 sc in each st across till next corner of blanket*, now repeat from * to * around, slip st.

Row2- make make puff pattern around the blanket as showing in the picture above.

Row3- repeat sc row once.

Row4- *make (shell 5 dc) into next sc st, skip  next 2 sc*, repeat around the blanket.

Now Start from Ribbing or make chains multiple 6 + 6 + 6..... +2:

Ribbing:

Make chains 11,

Row1- Make a sc into 2nd ch from the hook, sc in each ch across, turn. (sc 10)

Row2- ch1 count as sc, sc into back loop only in each next 9 sts, turn. (sc 10)

Row3-158: Repeat and follow Ribbing Row 2.

(156 Rows is Multiple of 6 stitches pattern + 2 Rows).

Measure Approx. Ribbing 158 Rows= 30”/ 76cm

Note: you can add or remove rows of ribbing to reach your desired sizes of blanket.


Start the pattern body of blanket:

Wrong side: ch1 don’t count, make a sc each row of ribbing across the edging till end,

turn. (sc 158)

Row1- Right side, ch2 don’t count, dc into same st,* make1 dc in each next

5 sts, ch1, skip a st*, Repeat from * to * across till end, at the end make dc into last st,

turn work. We have 26 groups pattern + 2 dc)

Row2- Wrong side: ch1 not count, sc into same st, ch1, skip a ch1, *make1 sc

in each 5 dc sts, ch1, skip ch 1*, Repeat from * to * across to end, at the end make ch1,

sc into last dc st, turn work. (26 group’s pattern + 2 sc)

Row3- Right side: ch2 don’t count, make dc into same st, ch1, skip a ch, *make treble 

crochet front post into middle dc st one step down in the 5 dc group, make 1dc in each 

middle 3 sc sts in the previous row, make again treble crochet front post into same middle 

dc st one step down as we worked before, ch1, skip a ch*, repeat from * to * across till end,

at the end make ch1, skip a ch, 1 dc into last st, turn work. (26 group’s pattern + 2 dc)

Row4- Wrong side: ch1 not count, sc into same st, ch1, skip ch1, *make1 sc

in each 5 sts in the group, ch1, skip ch 1*, Repeat from * to * across to end, at the end

make ch1,sc into last st, turn work. (26 group’s pattern + 2 sc)

Row5- Right side: ch2 don’t count, make dc into same st, ch1, skip a ch, *make 

treble crochet front post into middle dc st one step down in the 3 dc group, make 1dc in 

each middle 3 sc sts in the previous row, make again treble crochet front post into 

same middle dc st  one step down as we worked before, ch1, skip a ch*, repeat 

from * to * across till end, at the end make ch1, skip a ch, 1 dc into last st, 

turn work. (26 group’s pattern + 2 dc)

From Row6 : Repeat Pattern Row 4 and Pattern Row 5 of blanket.

Measure Approx. include ribbing band length is 34” inches/ 86 cm

Continue repeating the pattern rows until your blanket reaches length you need.

Make Ribbing:

now working in the width ribbing of blanket.

Row1- Right side facing, Rejoin yarn in the corner st, make chains 11, for ribbing

band, make sc into 2nd ch from the hook, make sc in each next 9 chains, now we

have 10 sc, Do slip st in each next 2 sts in the blanket last row, turn work, (sc 10)

Row2- skip the 2 sl st, sc into back loop only in the next 10 sts, (10 sc), make ch1 

and turn work.

Row3- ch1 count as sc, sc in each next 9 sc into back loop only, (10 sc) attach the 

row of your ribbing to the blanket last row stitches by making a sl st into the next 2

stitches.Turn your work. (10 sc)

From Row4: Repeat and follow Row 2 & Row 3 of ribbing (sc 10 sts)

Follow the same ribbing both of sides in length. Fasten off

Or follow other ribbing pattern as you work easy to finish.
