Wool:  #3 Medium Weight OR Light wool 3ply  

Guage: (5 double crochet x 2.5 Rows in 1 inch) with

Crochet hook size: 3.5 mm/ E-4

US TERMS ABBREVIATIONS:

c.         crochet

ch.       chain

sc        single crochet

hdc      half double crochet

dc.       double crochet

Trb.      Treble crochet stitch

sts.      stitches

st.        stitch

slst.     slip stitch

FL dc.  Front Loop double crochet

BL sc.  Back Loop single crochet

Mosaic pattern granny square:

Color A:

Make a magic circle OR make chains 5, slip st into first ch to make circle.

Now start Row 1 into circle.

Row1- ch1 don’t count, make sc 16 in the circle, slip st into first sc. (sc 16)

Row2- ch2 don’t count, make dc in each st around. Slip st into first dc. (dc 16)

Color B:

Row3- ch2 don’t count, 3dc into same st, *ch1, skip next dc, 3 dc next st*

Repeat from * to * around, ch1, slip st into first dc. We 8 groups pattern.

Color C:

Row4- ch1 don’t count, * make BLsc in each 3 dc sts, make 1 dc into dc st 1 step-down*,

Repeat from * to * around, slip st into first sc. And change color B

Color B:

Row5- ch2 don’t count, *make 1 FLdc in the dc st, 2 FLdc in next dc, 1 FLdc next dc st,

Ch 1, skip dc*, Repeat from * to * around. Ch1, slip st into first dc. And change color C.

Color C:

Row6- ch1 don’t count, * make BLsc in each 4 dc sts, make 2 dc into dc st 1 step-down*,

Repeat from * to * around, slip st into first sc. And change color B

Color B:

Row7- ch2 don’t count, *make FLdc in each next dc 2 sts, 2 FLdc in next dc, 1 FLdc next 

dc st, Ch 2, skip 2 dc*, Repeat from * to * around. Ch 2, slip st into first dc. And change 

color C.

Color C:

Row8- ch1 don’t count, * make BLsc in each 5 dc sts, make 1 dc into dc st 1 step-down,

make 2 dc into next dc 1 step-down*, Repeat from * to * around, slip st into first sc.

And change color B

Color B:

Row9- ch1 don’t count, *make FLsc in the dc st, skip next dc, 5 FLdc in next dc, skip next dc,

1 FLsc next dc st, Ch 3, skip 3 dc*, Repeat from * to * around. Ch3, slip st into first dc.

 And change color C.

Color C:

Row10- ch1 don’t count, *make sc 1 step-down in the 5 sc sts, make FL sc in the next 

3 dc sts, Make sc in the next 5 sc sts 1 step-down, skip next dc, make corner next dc 

(3dc, ch2, 3dc), Skip next dc*, Repeat from * to * 3 more times, slip st into first sc.

I have 4 corner in the square, and have 13 sc sts between in one side of square.

Row11- ch2 don’t count, make dc in each 13 sts, dc in each next 3 dc in corner sts, *make

Corner into middle of corner (3dc, ch2, 3dc), dc in each st in the next 19 sts 

between 2 corners* Repeat from * to * across till end, at the end make dc in 3 dc sts in 

the 4^th corner, then slip st

To join into first dc. Fasten off

If you want to make larger size square repeat the increasing row 11 of square.

Fasten off and weave all ends.
